Captain Denée

Home | Leading figures in the battle of Belvedere | Captain Denée

Captain DenéeCaptain Denée was the commanding officer of the 9th Company. He was a colourful figure with a sturdy physique.

His company was assigned by Major Gandoet to carry out the preliminary operation: the capture of hill 470.

Riddled with bullets at the time of the attack, his men believed him dead, which threw the 9th Company into confusion. It was decimated little by little during the German counter-attack.

Despite being grievously wounded, Captain Denée survived the fighting at Belvedere.
